On what issues do prisoners turn to the Ombudsman?
The Authorized Person of the Oliy Majlis for Human Rights (Ombudsman) was approached by prisoner G.P. who is being held in pre-trial detention center No. 2 in the Republic of Karakalpakstan, regarding the provision of practical assistance in her treatment. The appeal was taken under control and sent to the regional representative of the Ombudsman in the Republic of Karakalpakstan Zhenisbay Shlymbetov for studying and taking appropriate measures.

It was established that the convicted G.P. found guilty under a number of articles of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan, sentenced to 10 years in prison and assigned to serve the sentence in a general colony.

In the course of studying the appeal, the prisoner said that she had cancer, that she was being treated in a pre-trial detention center, but her health was deteriorating, and she asked for practical assistance in treatment in specialized medical institutions.

As a result of the measures taken by the regional representative of the Ombudsman, the prisoner was sent for treatment to the Karakalpak branch of the Republican Specialized Oncological and Radiological Scientific and Practical Medical Center. The prisoner received the necessary treatment in this institution for more than 2 months.

It is known that regional representatives of the Authorized Person of the Oliy Majlis for Human Rights (Ombudsman) in the regions regularly travel to places of deprivation of liberty, study the conditions created for prisoners, and accept their appeals.

During a visit to colony No. 10 of the Koson region by the regional representative of the Ombudsman in the Kashkadarya region, Murodilla Normurodov, prisoner K.Kh. turned to the regional representative about the fact that her family needs social assistance. In her appeal, she stated that, having minor children, her husband's earnings are not enough to financially support the family and therefore she is trying to get maternity capital.But due to the expiration of the renewal of the identity document, there are problems with the execution of the relevant documents.

Considering the social status of the convict's family, a corresponding appeal was sent to the relevant authorities and an identity card was issued to her.

Also, the regional representative of the Ombudsman in the Navoi region received an appeal from convict T.I. from the city of Bukhara, serving a sentence in colony No. 36. He turned to the regional representative about providing material assistance to his family.

It was established that in 2020, a natural disaster damaged a house in the Karakol district of the Bukhara region, where the convict's family lives. The families affected by the natural disaster were given the necessary building materials by the district khokimiyat. In his appeal, the prisoner asked for help, because he wanted to make a major renovation of the house, and for this he needed to buy additional building products, but he did not have the financial means.

This appeal was considered jointly with the regional representatives of the Ombudsman in the Navoi and Bukhara regions. The regional representative of the Ombudsman in Bukhara, Abira Huseynova, went to the address where the convict's family lives to study the appeal on the spot. During the study, it turned out that the convict's family really lives in difficult conditions. An appeal was sent to the khokimiyat of the district with a request to provide them with social assistance, and as a result of the efforts of the regional representatives of the Ombudsman, the necessary building materials were delivered to the applicant's family.
